LLANDEGFEDD RESERVOIR

Newport, South Wales

Overview

Llandegfedd is a large reservoir N of Newport that allows windsurfing and wingfoiling with your own equipment. It really only works in a N or NE wind (which bends round N) as it is surrounded by high hills that block all other wind directions.

The reservoir is open from March to the end of October. Book your visit at https://llandegfedd.co.uk/

Wind

It works very well in a North or North East wind. There is a large grass rigging area. The wind is funnelled down the lake and is often stronger than forecast. Look for 13 knots or more on windguru.

Tide

There are no tides but the water can get low in late summer with quite a trek down to the water edge..

Parking

There is a big car park (ANPR so get a ticket).

The cafe is excellent too, with very good changing facilities in the modern watersports centre.

Once you have booked your visit / launch check in with the office in the centre. You will need Third Party insurance to sail / foil here and a buoyancy aid.
